If you’re around Portland Thanksgiving weekend — you might check out the Portland Drum Fair Presented by Revival Drum Shop & Rhythm Traders on Sunday, November 27, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will feature gads of gear and volleys of vintage drum treasures. And there will be live performances by a bevy of drum talents, including Daniel Glass, John Niekrasz and myself.
I’ll be performing a solo (with surprises) at 1:40 p.m. dedicated to Paul Motian, jazz drumming’s patron saint of elliptical pulse and poetry, who passed away this week at the age of 80: “Lost in a Dream: Drum Music [for Paul Motian]”
[you can also tune into The New Thing, my weekly show on KMHD, this coming Monday for an hour of all-Paul Motian]
